| To the editor, I am writing in reply to your article which I read recently. There are arguments for and against: For - it is evident that there are too many cars and new roads are always being built to make room for an ever growing number of vehicles. There are still many old cars on the road and it is they that cause the most pollution. Against - cars play such an integral role in our way of life that it is difficult to see how we could get rid if them. Public transport is not good enough to replace them (especially in the country) and it is often expensive. Finally, modern cars pollute very little. |
